I'm taking a brief break today to celebrate a special birthday in our family.
Our son Mick is having one of those big birthdays with a zero at the end.
He just turned 20. No longer a teenager.
It's also a bit of a life transition for mom and dad, given that Mick is the last of our many teenagers.
He spent the first six days of his life in the neonatal ICU at UC Davis, connected to so many tubes that we weren't even allowed to hold him or rock him to sleep.
But he survived and then thrived to become not only a cherished son, but a brother, a grandson, a cousin, a nephew, a friend and yes, at the ripe old age of one, he became an uncle. He's also a scholar, an athlete, a barista and a talented editor.
But mostly, he is one of the finest human beings God ever put on this earth. He brings us joy in bunches every single day.
So here, for your amusement, is a video of the day that Mick, at the age of three, finally discovered peanut butter.
Happy Birthday dear Mick. Hope he had a great day.
Happy Birthday, sir
May the next twenty be even better
