Aggie men struggle mightily in 68-51 Big West basketball loss at UC San Diego
Disappointing loss ends promising three-game Aggie win streak
LA JOLLA - UC San Diego led for all but the first few minutes to rout UC Davis, 68-51, in Big West men’s basketball action Thursday night before a satisfied crowd of 1,874 at LionTree Arena.
The win, UCSD’s second of the year over the Aggies after an 80-74 victory last month in Davis, drops the Aggies to 8-6 in league play and 15-10 overall with six games remaining in the regular season. The Tritons are now 7-7 and 17-9.
Carl Daughtery had a personal 5-0 run to start the game and give the Aggies a brief lead, but UCSD soon went on a 14-0 run and never looked back.
The Tritons enjoyed a 33-20 advantage at the half and never led by fewer than 11 points after intermission, enjoying their biggest lead at 59-37.
UCD shot just 35.5 percent from the field to 54.0 percent for their hosts and never could gain any traction in a disappointing loss that ended a three-game win streak.
In a game with very few free throws attempted, UCD was just 1 of 7 from the line while San Diego was 7 of 9.
Marcus Wilson was the only Aggie in double figures with 13 points.
The Aggies come home for a 2 p.m. game Saturday against Long Beach State, then finish with four of their last five games on the road.
