Aggie women rout Jacksonville State in non-conference basketball action at Univ. of the Pacific
Megan Norris leads 69-59 win with 19 points and 11 rebounds
STOCKTON - UC Davis used a barrage of 3-pointers early and never looked back to take a convincing 69-59 non-conference women’s basketball win from Jacksonville State here Friday afternoon.
The win came in the first round of the Tiger Turkey Tip-off sponsored by the University of the Pacific at the Alex G. Spanos center on the UOP campus.
UCD concludes tournament action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Milwaukee.
The Aggies are now 5-2 on the season with their second straight win, while Jacksonville State, out of Jacksonville, Alabama, fell to 2-4.
Jacksonville jumped to a quick 4-0 lead while holding the Aggies scoreless for nearly three minutes, but the success was short-lived.
Nya Epps finally broke the scoring drought to key a 12-0 Aggie run that included long-range hits from Avery Sussex and Megan Norris.
Before the quarter was over, Emmy Ersdala and Sophie Lentfer also hit from long range as UCD forged a 24-16 advantage while shooting a sizzling 69.2 percent from the floor.
UCD expanded its lead to 41-26 at the half and 59-38 after three quarters, finishing the afternoon with 55.3 accuracy from the floor and enjoying a decisive rebounding edge of 39-25. All 10 Aggies who entered the game had at least one rebound.
Norris was all over the stat sheet with 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting, 11 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.
Ryann Bennett was the only other Aggie in double figures with 12 points.
UCD comes home to the University Credit Union Center Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. to open Big West play against Hawaii.
