Aggies arrive in San Luis Obispo hoping to retain the Golden Horseshoe
UC Davis has won 8 straight in this series, but Poly is much improved in 2025
Tim Plough says his Aggie football team has two goals every season.
“We want to win the Big Sky championship and beat the team we don’t like down south and beat the team we don’t like across the Causeway,” said the Aggie head coach.
Whether that’s actually two goals or three is a matter of debate for mathematicians, statisticians and Aggie football fans, but in Plough’s mind, beating both Cal Poly and Sacramento State are part of the same goal.
In other words, if the Aggies go 2-10, but those two wins are over Poly and Sac State, the season will have been at least half successful.
Plough isn’t kidding.
As an Aggie quarterback, Plough learned the intensity of these two rivalries, even though he grew up in San Diego.
UC Davis hopes to accomplish a part of those goals this evening when they take on the Cal Poly Mustangs in the Battle of the Golden Horseshoe.
Game time on Mustang Memorial Field is 5 p.m.
Tonight’s game will be telecast on ESPN+. Radio coverage will be provided by the Voice of the Aggies, Scott Marsh, and color analyst Scott Gordon, on Sactown Radio, 1140 AM.
