Aggies finish strong on the road to overwhelm Idaho State in men's non-conference basketball
Sevilla leads five Aggies into double figures in 93-83 win
POCATELLO, Idaho - UC Davis built a big early lead, then pulled away down the stretch for a convincing 93-83 non-conference men’s basketball win over Idaho State Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 1,066 at Reed Gym on the ISU campus.
The win snapped a three-game Aggie losing streak and gives UCD a 6-5 overall mark. Idaho State, which competes in the Big Sky Conference, is now 7-6.
“This is a good win for us,” said Aggie head coach Jim Les.
“Idaho State is a good basketball team and they’re going to win a lot of games in the Big Sky. We tried to mix up our coverages early and we were able to break their rhythm a little bit.”
The game was tied four times in the early going, with the Bengals enjoying their final lead at 10-8.
UCD, getting scoring throughout its roster, closed the first half with a 12-3 burst to take a 50-35 lead into intermission.
When Nils Cooper hit a pair of free throws and Niko Rocak followed with a bucket, the Aggies enjoyed their biggest lead of the night at 54-35 and it appeared they would board the bus for Salt Lake City and their late-night flight home with an easy victory in hand.
Idaho State had other ideas.
