Aggies overwhelm Hornets in overtime to take women's Causeway Classic basketball win
Ryan Bennett leads the way with 25 points as UCD earns 70-67 decision
SACRAMENTO - UC Davis went on a 6-0 run late in overtime to take a tense 70-67 win over Sacramento State in a non-conference women’s basketball game Monday night at Hornet Pavilion.
The win moves the Aggies to 4-2 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 5-2.
The game was a back-and-forth battle throughout, with Sac State leading 16-10 at the quarter, the Aggies leading 23-22 at half, the Hornets leading 40-37 after three quarters and the two tied at 62 at the end of regulation.
The Hornets rallied from a 56-47 deficit to tie the game with two free throws with less than a second remaining,
Sac State took a 65-64 lead in overtime on a 3-pointer from Rubi Gray, but two free throws from Ryann Bennett gave UCD the lead for good at 66-65.
A basket by Emmy Ersdala and two free throws from Avery Sussex pushed the advantage to 70-65 and finally ended the Hornet threat.
It was yet another career night for Bennett, who played 44 of the 45 minutes, putting up 25 points along with four rebounds and four steals.
Sussex added 15 points, Ersdala 11 and Epps 10.
Megan Norris may have had only six points, but she was a terror everywhere else with nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks.
The Aggie women will spend the weekend at the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off at University of the Pacific in Stockton.
UCD first meets Jacksonville State Friday at 1 p.m, followed by Milwaukee on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Aggies then come home Dec. 4 to open their final season of Big West action against Hawaii.
UCD will join the Mountain West on July 1, 2026.
