Big Sky now has a scheduling nightmare as Sac State drops and Utah Tech and Southern Utah come aboard
Is Sac State heading to court to battle negative NCAA ruling?
As UC Davis embarks on an ambitious 12-game schedule with the goal of making another deep run in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, there is one question in the minds of Aggie loyalists.
Will this be a rebuilding year or a reloading year?
Or perhaps, a little bit of both?
The Aggies were 11-3 overall in 2024 and reached the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs before bowing to South Dakota, 35-21.
With the Big Sky adding Southern Utah and Utah Tech in 2026, but losing Sac State, the decision has been made to move to a nine-game conference schedule from the current eight that will be contested for the final time this fall.
Sacramento State, which has severed its Big Sky ties after this season, isn't sure where its football program will land, given that the NCAA has turned down its bid to be an FBS independent. There will be no crawling back to the Big Sky on bended knee, with multiple sources indicating the Hornets burned the Big Sky bridge with their quick exit.
The best guess is that the Hornets will end up in court one day soon in an attempt to override an NCAA ruling that has no force of law.
