California Democrats hatch a plan to keep "old folks" from running for office
Moses, Grandma Moses and Methuselah knocked out of governor's race
The New York Times came up with a provocative headline and an even more provocative story the other day about a plan that some Democrats have hatched to ban people past a certain age from running for office.
"No Country for Old Politicians?" asks the headline.
"Some California Democrats Want an Age Cap."
Yep, another burning issue that down-and-out Democrats are willing to chase down the rabbit hole instead of following the one piece of advice that has been true in every election since the beginning of time, "It's the economy, stupid."
Most voters, fortunately or unfortunately, want what's best for themselves first and what's best for the country or the state of the county or the city second.
It's human nature.
The Bible may tell us to give our neighbor the shirt off our back, but few of us would be willing to do that unless we have a dozen more shirts hanging in the closet.
It should be noted that the folks proposing various age limits for holding public office are all under the proposed age that would toss the elderly into the political dumpster and haul them away to the nearest landfill.
The Times story, by Heather Knight and Laurel Rosenhall, notes that "Some party activists, pointing to several examples where they say leaders held onto power long past their prime, want to take the political keys away from state and local officeholders at a certain age."
They note that Dianne Feinstein was 90 when she died in office, not to mention Joe Biden holding onto the idea of running for a second term so long that it may well have cost the Democrats the presidency.
