Drone footage taken at 7:21 Monday morning shows that 12,182 Davis homeowners were out carefully inspecting the sidewalks in front of their million-dollar homes.

Yes, the five duly elected members of the Davis City Council put their heads together the other night and decided it was about time that homeowners - not the city - should be responsible for maintaining and repairing the sidewalks attached to the front of their property.

The fact that this was a unanimous decision just proves that old saying about how misery loves company. Or in this case, lunacy.

Whether the new edict includes removing by hand the charming little dandelions that sometimes poke their heads up through the cracks will be debated at the next council meeting.

According to an official communique from the City braintrust sequestered in the basement of the old Davis High School, “The City recently took an initial step to align its municipal code with existing State laws.”
