Harper steps up as Aggies edge Northern Colorado, 27-16
Senior quarterback Grant Harper leads UC Davis to its fifth straight win with a steady hand and late field goal drive.
GREELEY, Colorado - With the game on the line, UC Davis put together a methodical, time-consuming drive to finally put away a spirited Northern Colorado comeback here Saturday afternoon.
After UNC had cut a 24-0 Aggie lead to just 24-16 midway through the fourth quarter, UCD took over at its own 25 with 7:56 remaining. Moving almost exclusively on the ground behind Carter Vargas and Jordan Fisher, UCD converted several key third downs to keep the drive alive.
“I give the offensive line a lot of credit for how they put together that last drive, that made all the difference,” said head coach Tim Plough. “And I give Northern Colorado a lot of credit for the way they came back. We knew they would be a difficult opponent, and they made the adjustments to make it difficult on us.”
The drive culminated when Hunter Ridley, kicking from the right hash, hit a 40-yard field goal to finish off the Bears, 27-16.
