Hawaii women dominate fourth quarter to stop UC Davis, 67-46, in Big West basketball showdown
Megan Norris is now the all-time leading career rebounder in Aggie history
HONOLULU - It’s probably best to bury the tape from this one and never let it see the light of day.
Unable to hit from long range and trailing throughout, the Aggie women dropped a disappointing 67-46 Big West basketball decision to Hawaii before a wildly enthusiastic crowd of 1,771 at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center Thursday night.
The loss drops the Aggies one spot into third place at 14-4 with two games remaining in the regular season.
UC Irvine, a 60-57 winner over Cal State Northridge, is alone in first at 15-2, followed by UC San Diego at 14-3. San Diego dropped Cal State Bakersfield, 85-79 Thursday night.
Hawaii is now 11-6 in the Big West after starting the season 0-5.
The lone bright spot for UCD was that Megan Norris pulled down nine rebounds and is now the all-time Aggie career record-holder for rebounds with 1,032. She surpasses Carol Rische who finished her career with 1,028 rebounds.
The game was tied three times in the first quarter, which ended with Hawaii leading 11-9.
Hawaii opened the second frame on a 15-4 run and enjoyed a 30-20 advantage at the half and 42-33 after three quarters.
All hope ended for the Aggies when Hawaii went on an 11-2 spurt to open the final quarter and coasted home from there.
Nya Epps led the Aggies with 15 points, while Ryann Bennett had 11.
UCD closes the regular season with a pair of games at home, first taking on Long Beach State, 3-14, on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a showdown with Irvine Saturday at 2 p.m.
Then it’s on to the Big West Tournament in Henderson, Nevada, March 11-14, with the winner moving on to the NCAA’s Big Dance.
