Lake Tahoe research center brings sparkling new uniform color to UC Davis athletics

Bold Aqua will join longstanding Blue and Gold on several uniforms this fall

For years, first as a kid growing up in this town, then as a UC Davis undergrad and finally as a dedicated sportswriter, I have known our local heroes at UC Davis as the California Aggies, the Cal Aggies, the UC Davis Aggies, simply the Aggies, and every once in a while as the Blue and Gold.

Well, I have some news to report.

While the Aggies will always be the Aggies because of our deep agricultural roots, the "Blue" in "Blue and Gold" will apparently be a different shade of blue on team uniforms every now and then.

For years, if you bothered to look it up, the official school colors, which matter primarily in athletics, were Yale Blue and Gold.

Yes, Yale Blue.

Made me wonder as a loyal Aggie if among Yale's school colors was a shade known as Aggie Blue as some sort of coast to coast exchange.

Turns out Yale, being Yale, has just one school color and it is not Aggie Blue, but Yale Blue.

I should have known.
