According to multiple reports, former UC Davis running back Lan Larison has been placed on injured reserve by the New England Patriots after suffering a foot injury late in the fourth quarter of the Patriots' 48-18 preseason win over the Washington Commanders.

According to a report from the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed, Larison was seen in a walking boot after the Patriots dominated the Washington Commanders in their preseason opener at Gillette Stadium on Friday night. One report said Larison will undergo foot surgery in the near future and his rookie season is effectively over.

Larison, the Aggies' all-time leading rusher, was not a lock for a spot on the Patriots' 53-man roster, given that he was competing in a crowded running back room also featuring Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and TreVeyon Henderson. However, several journalists who regularly cover the Patriots said Larison's performance against Washington would likely have earned him a roster spot due to his can-do attitude and his versatility.

Officially, the term is reserve/injured list, but it's commonly referred to as injured reserve or IR. Players are put on IR when they have a football-related injury that requires them to miss at least a few weeks. Players on IR don't count against the 53-man active roster limit, but their salaries count against the salary cap.
