Plus, cheap gas in Oregon, a long ago letter to the editor from J. Edgar Hoover and illegals on the Mayflower

"H" IS FOR HELLSCAPE ... Can someone please explain why H Street, which runs along the railroad tracks from E. 8th to the historic Davis Little League Park out by the Covell Overpass, is such a disaster for motorists and bicyclists alike?

Yes, a number of our streets could use some work, but none as much as H Street.

Forget going to the State Fair at Cal Expo next month or the Yolo County Fair in Woodland in August, you can get a five-star thrill ride for free just by packing up the van and taking your family for a bumpy ride down H Street. Reminds me of the old Mad Mouse at the County Fair.

Just be sure that the local Urgent Care is open when you do take that ride.

GAS PAINS ... I may need to drop a quick note to my good friend Gavinator Newsom about the stubbornly high gas prices in the Golden State.

Check out these recent photos from my son Mick after his sojourn up 101 North through the California redwoods and on to the coast of Southern Oregon.

Crescent City, CA
Brookings, OR

It was almost worth the trip to Brookings just to save two bucks a gallon.

J. EDGAR HOOVER'S LETTER TO THE EDITOR OF THE DAVIS ENTERPRISE ... Back in 1962, long before the current ownership took over the local newspaper, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover - or “Jedgar” as Lily Tomlin used to call him - penned a personal Letter to the Editor for everyone in the town of Davisville to read.
