I remember well the horse article. It stuck with me for all these years. Thanks for sharing it again. The force is strong with you.

Basketball is a common denominator for many people, as you well know, Len. Note to readers: Do not challenge Len to a game of HORSE

I remember the Star Wars number well, and I should, having been a Star Wars fan since the beginning. In fact, we have some sculptures of Star Wars characters in our back garden (Yoda and Chewbacca among them). Lois and I were living in London on sabbatical in the mid-1980's when the last of the initial series came out. A downtown theater showed all of them in one go, and we went, among, I think, about 1000 teenagers. It was a marathon, starting about 1:00 PM and ending around midnight. In those days the Tube stopped running about 10:00 PM, and taxis packed up about 11:00. I can't remember how we got home.

I was never a Star Wars fan. Ditto Harry Potter. But ur second article caught my eye and memory big time. Early in my career i worked for Federal Defenders. Lasted one year, combination of my dad wanting me in his practice and my boss wanting to tell me everything i was doing wrong. After awhile i tired, crossed the causeway to my dad’s practice and told him he had a new partner. He was thrilled as was my mom, our practice was next door, where I had grown up. But in that year a beautiful Mexican woman interned for us. I was enamored she had another commitment. Incomplete pass. 2 yrs later we ran into each other again with her san commitment. After a bit together she came into our office, by then she was at King hall and invited me to tag along with her crim law class to San Quentin. Sure. By this time my dad had sent me to virtually every jail and prison in Northern California and i was making daily appearances in yolo crim courts. So we tracked down there and were led around. We passed the gym, maybe the one you were denied a game of horse. A card table was set up and a pralegal trained inmate was giving advise to other inmates. So i took a chair and quietly advised him on advising his mates. They were thrilled, a guard and chris’ prof not so much. Told to get back to the group i told they they were Interfering with the attorney/client privilege. They drifted away, and on we journeyed. Until i felt a presence behind me and a tap on my shoulder. The love of my life gave me a look I’ve now seen for 44 plus years and left like a recalcitrant child on the way to the principles office. Told the paralegal I’d make an appointment and bring him some helpful materials and advise a promise i kept. Great story Bob, fyi u can sign up to play a p/u with inmates after very careful vetting of the players if u still have game or even if u don’t. 😜
