Oregon shows its Big Ten muscle to rout UC Davis in non-conference men's basketball
Matthew Knight Arena is a difficult venue for Aggies in 104-62 loss to the Ducks
EUGENE, Oregon ... A devastatingly slow start doomed UC Davis’ chances early as the University of Oregon raced away to a 104-62 non-conference men’s basketball win before a crowd of 5,299 Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
The loss dropped the Aggies to 5-4, while Oregon is now 5-5.
Nate Bittle started the rout with a layup, then four of his teammates all contributed, two from long range, as the Ducks took a 16-0 lead and never looked back.
The Aggies were held scoreless for the first 6:26 of the game before Carl Daughtery hit from close range to break the ice.
Speaking of ice, the Aggies were ice cold in the opening half, hitting just 4 of 27 field goal attempts (14.8 percent) and 2 of 15 from long range (13.3 percent).
Oregon led 31-6 with 9:05 remaining in the opening half and expanded that to 52-16 at intermission.
The Ducks’ biggest lead was 102-53 just before the end.
Daughtery was the only Aggie in double figures with 15 points, while Brayden Fagbemi and Jalen Stokes had nine points each.
Jackson Shelstad led four Ducks into double figures with 21 points while adding nine assists and three steals to his afternoon’s work.
The Aggies come home Wednesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference game against Seattle University in the University Credit Union Center.
