Nobody’s talking about post-season awards in October, but if Aggie freshman quarterback Caden Pinnick keeps putting up gaudy numbers he will no doubt be a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award given to the top FCS freshman in the country.

Pinnick was on target all night as No. 6 UC Davis pulled away down the stretch for a convincing 45-24 Big Sky Conference win over No. 16 Northern Arizona before an enthusiastic crowd of 9,937 Saturday evening at UC Davis Health Stadium.

The win, UCD’s fourth straight, moves the Aggies to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Sky. Northern Arizona falls to 4-3 and 1-2.

Pinnick hit a stunning 86.2 percent of his pass attempts (25 of 29) for 348 yards and five touchdowns as the Aggies exploded for 21 points in the final quarter to turn a close struggle into a rout.
