President Trump, the Truth Teller in Chief, is flat out lying about "No tax on Social Security"
A tip of your MAGA cap for telling a lie so often that it becomes "fact"
That old expression "Liars figure and figures lie" comes to mind as the Trump administration continues to insist that the One Big Beautiful Bill contains a provision that eliminates all federal tax on Social Security income.
That, if true, would be a big deal for the 74 million Americans who receive some sort of Social Security benefit, though it varies widely from one recipient to another.
I will admit that although I am only 42 years of age, I have received a Social Security check every month for some time now by making myself look considerably older through a combination of bad eating and keeping my hair trimmed so close to the scalp that I appear to be bald. It seems to have worked.
The Social Security Administration is none the wiser and I don't plan to tell them.
Like so many of my fellow recipients, I recently received a communique from the White House with a headline that states "No Tax on Social Security Is a Reality in the One Big Beautiful Bill."
The Treasury Department also sent out a fawning statement basically backing up the White House position in one of the most partisan communications I've ever received from an official federal government entity.
Well, as much as I hate to be a whistleblower on this issue, what we have is a One Big Beautiful Lie in this new law that Trump and Co. just can't seem to tell the truth about.
Trust me, there is no mention of "No Tax on Social Security" in this new law. Nope, the rules about taxing Social Security income are exactly as they were when Hunter Biden was cheating on his income taxes.
Donald Trump knows it, House Speaker Mike Johnson knows it, Senate Majority Leader John Thune knows it and the Internal Revenue Service most definitely knows it.
If you don't believe me, try leaving your Social Security income absent from the 2025 tax return you file next April and you'll have an IRS auditor on your doorstep faster than you can say "tax evasion."
You may also earn yourself a one-way ticket to El Salvador.
Here's how it works.
