Rocak leads the way as Aggie men take tense Big West basketball win from UC Irvine
Late free throws preserve a 75-72 win as UC Davis shows resolve down the stretch
If you’ve yet to see a UC Davis men’s basketball game this season, this might be a good time to do it.
Playing their best basketball of the year, the Aggies took control late to finish a heartstopping 75-72 win over league-leading UC Irvine Saturday afternoon before a raucous crowd of 1,413 at the University Credit Union Center.
The win, UCD’s second straight, moves the Aggies to 4-3 in Big West play, one game behind league-leaders Irvine and Hawaii, which are both 5-2. The Aggies are 11-7 overall, while Irvine is now 12-7.
The Aggies are part of a logjam behind Irvine and Hawaii, with Long Beach State, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara all at 4-3.
“If we play with the intensity we showed today and focus on getting better, good things are going to happen,” enthused Aggie head coach Jim Les.
“I really like this group and how they’re playing. But as a coaching staff, we think they have a ceiling that is much higher.”
