This is beautiful. All of it. Thank you. I guess you can make a great living writing both hilarious and simply uplifting, gloriously entertaining columns. Love your style and content. Pictures are a big plus!! 😊
Bob, for so many reasons this is now my absolute favorite of all your columns! I'm so glad you went to that laundromat, too. And enjoy that huge summer birthday party for the rest of your life!
I ran across his stuff while reading his obit and it spiked a memory from long ago.
When you watch him perform with that devil-may-care grin and attitude, it's irresistible. And yet he was a brilliant math professor at Harvard and later at UC Santa Cruz. While he was alive he released a statement saying all of his lyrics and melodies and videos could be used by any person for any reason, free of charge.
What a welcome respite from all the bad news. Thanks, Bob. I was delighted also by your kids’ names: Emme, Maeve, Molly, Erin, Mick, and Ted. You’d think you were Irish or something.
I’m just now catching up after being in the mountains and off line for a while (nice break!) and what a treat to have this column be the first thing I read! Thank you for sharing and spreading all the joy.
Beautiful column: thank you SO much 🥰 You inspired me to sing myself a rousing round of “Poisoning Pigeons in the Park:” one of my all-time faves (“…except for the few we take home to experiment” 🤣). ❤️
I loved Tom Lehrer, but had forgotten all about him until I read about his death the other day. Watching him in the video is a riot. He is so enjoying himself. So many fun and funny songs. He blessed us with his presence and made our lives richer. And full of joy
You're making me smile, Erin. Yes, Darby was responsible for all of the above. And Mick's photos of the Avenue of the Giants are the stuff of Pulitzers.
Crepe Myrtle is my wife’s favorite tree. When she was a little girl, the city came to remove the tree on the sidewalk next to her house. She sat down beneath the tree and refused to move. The local paper sent someone out to do a story about this young treehugger, and the tree still stands today.
Too bad you did not hang your clothes to dry, you could claim to be the first ever to meet on line!
Great one, Andre

Thanks so much, Holly.
It is a complete joy to have this opportunity in my life.
Your love story never fails to make me smile, no matter how many times I read it. The best RomCom ever. 🥰
Makes me smile, too, Robin.
Thank you.
What a great story, and such adorable kids!! Yes, life’s blessings are to be savored.
Perfectly said, Patricia.
What a wonderful treat your column is - thank you!
You are so kind, Carolee.
That means so much to me.
Blessings

A cascade of blessings.
So good to hear from you, Jan.
Your thoughts are always welcome here.
Lehrer means teacher in German.
I did not know that, Austin.

Irish to the core, from County Mayo no less. Which likely explains my lifelong affection for Best Foods Mayonnaise.
I love the reminders of joy and the wonders of love and family. Thanks, Bob!
And we celebrated all those birthdays at Davis' very own Woodstock's, Laura.
Well thanks for the loyalty!

That was a run one to write, Marjorie. Welcome home

happy birthdays 🌙🌙🌙🌙
I wonder how many zillions of times the Moon has been photographed
love every phase of the moon but the waxing crescent is my favorite look and you captured it which is not easy to do
Great column Darby…oops, I mean Bob. And happy anniversary to you and Shelley.
I do have to clean up Darby's typos. His paws tend to hit at least two keys at the same time and I sometimes don't know what he's trying to say.
I'm a little worried about your pomegranate... measles? Love the family pictures.
It looks like measles, doesn't it? Please don't tell RFK, Jr. or he might send out the bomb squad.

That is the greatest story ever, Ted. Makes my heart swell.
Treehuggers will lead us to the Promised Land, guaranteed.
