In one short Saturday Penn State saw its playoff hopes go up in smoke, UCLA learned there is life after death after all, Cal’s ACC title hopes got smacked in the teeth, Stanford had a non-losing weekend, Arch Manning changed his name to Arch Dunning to take the pressure off himself, and our beloved UC Davis Aggies kept rolling merrily along despite a rash of key injuries.

Worst of all, my win-loss percentage continued to drop precipitously and my photo has been posted on Gamblers Anonymous’ 10 Most Wanted List.

OREGON over INDIANA ... How on earth did the Hoosiers get so good so fast in any sport other than basketball?

OHIO STATE over ILLINOIS ... The Illini had a great last-second, one-point win over USC after a dreadful 63-10 loss to Indiana. There will be no such wild swings this weekend as the Buckeyes once again take care of business.

ALABAMA over MISSOURI ... Getting no break from the schedule-maker, the Crimson Tide take on their third straight unbeaten opponent. After jabbing Georgia and vanquishing Vandy, this will be a piece of cake for the boys from Tuscaloosa.
