Tegan Young saves the day as Aggie women stop Cal Poly, 59-55, in Big West basketball action
Young's 3-point bomb keeps UC Davis near the stop of the league standings with seven games remaining
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Tegan Young hit a 3-pointer to break a tie with 0:09 remaining as the UC Davis women escaped with a tense, 59-55, win over lowly Cal Poly Saturday afternoon in a Big West basketball contest before a crowd of 528 at the Mott Athletics Center.
The win moves the Aggies to 10-3 in league play at 17-7 overall. Poly is now 1-12 and 3-20.
While many observers figured the game wouldn’t be close, Cal Poly took a 16-12 lead at the quarter and battled the Aggies step for step the rest of the way.
With the game tied at 55, Young hit from long range, then Ryann Bennett grabbed a defensive rebound at 0:02, was fouled and hit a free throw to seal the win.
Bennett led all scorers with 20 points, while Megan Norris had 15 rebounds.
The Aggie women return home Thursday at 6 p.m. for a Big West battle with UC San Diego, then travel to Long Beach State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
