The City’s sidewalk silliness is no longer silly

If we truly own the sidewalk in front of our home, can we do with it as we please?

Okay, it’s been a week or so since the City of Davis dropped the bombshell that every homeowner in town will soon be responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and potential repair of the sidewalk in front of their home.

Furthermore, the City hinted broadly that if the damage to a sidewalk is caused by a City-mandated front-yard tree, the homeowner will be responsible for that as well. Including liability if the damage causes injury to someone walking - or riding a tricycle - past your home.

Despite howls of protest that could be heard all the way to Klamath Falls, the City has not budged.

Instead, the City is cranking out self-serving (not to mention self-defeating) press releases and “fact” sheets to the vast complaining class, attempting to defend the indefensible.
