The Nine Misconceptions are not The Ten Commandments, but they are important nonetheless
If Prop 50 passes, will it fuel our Gavinator's presidential ambitions?
My friend Roberta Millstein, writing for The Davisite, pointed out some Prop 50 fallacies making the rounds that I was not aware of.
She points out a number of things, nine specifically, that some folks apparently believe, and that belief could ultimately influence how they mark their ballots.
Let’s call them The Nine Misconceptions.
Not exactly The Ten Commandments, but worth pondering nonetheless.
Misconception No. 1 is that Texas was forced to redistrict.
Depending on how you view the word “forced,” that might not be a misconception at all.
After all, Texas Governor Greg Abbott got a phone call from the Gerrymanderer in Chief demanding that Texas call a special session of the legislature to redraw
Congressional districts to flip five Democratic seats to the Republicans.
We know that President Trump can instantly turn friend to foe if they so much as bring the wrong brand of soda pop into the Oval Office, so hear me out.
Had Abbott resisted Trump’s demand, the president would no doubt have automatically given him a one-way ticket to El Salvador. Thus, the word “forced” might actually be applicable here.
Misconception No. 2 is that a “Yes” vote on Prop 50 will end democracy in California.
