It's sad that this doesn't make national headlines. Kudos to the Mexican professionals for doing the right thing in spite of our hateful national government.
FWIW, I saw a piece about their efforts on CNN last week, so it IS garnering attention (as it should). Philip DeFranco also covered them on one of his "daily dives into the news" or whatever he calls it. It probably depends on where you get your news, as the major outlets still tend to follow the "if it bleeds, it leads" philosophy.
Absolutely. With all that's going on and all the hatred being thrown around, it's great to see those folks pitch in and rise to the challenge. Makes my heart swell.
First, great for your daughter's stepson. A lot of us would be there too if we were a bit closer or could get the time off work. I know you love Kristi Noem to the bottom of your Texas boots, but if those Mexican rescuers are not United States citizens and they are in our country, then they are, by definition, undocumented. Just like the people on the Mayflower.
First three things: I wouldn't know Kristi Noem from Eve if I met her on the street, except perhaps for her mug being in the press all the time. Second, I haven't had a pair of boots since I wore size 11; that's when I was playing bass in a C&W band in the late 60s. I'm currently wearing size 15 shoes.
Third, those Mexican rescuers are visitors, or guests of the US. I am quite sure they crossed the border at one of the check points, and were welcomed in by the agents there: in that case they are documented. Finally, they're nothing at all like the people on the Mayflower: they came, temporarily to help, not to settle here.
Beyond that, I want to say that I reacted to your headline because I had a personal interest, albeit second hand through my daughter. Just consider how that headline would have hit someone whose family lost a child, or had their home destroyed. I believe you had no idea how it would affect someone with a personal interest in the events described, so forgive me for my quick response.
There is too much division in our society lately, and it does need to stop before it tears our country apart. You have mentioned being Catholic, and if so you have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and savior. That makes us brothers in Christ. As brothers, let us try to keep political opinions from dividing us.
I just want to say thanks to the Mexican people for all that they do for me. Without them I would not EAT, my roof would LEAK, my trees would DIE, and a host of many other things. My experience with the Mexican people is that they are fearless and inventive. Many thanks.
Well done, Bob. We should all be thankful to the Mexicans for pitching in to help. In my experience in Mexico that’s not unusual; unlike for many in our country, empathy is a valued attitude, and it’s showing. Now just wait. ICE will get wind of what’s going on, and we can guess what will follow. According to current reports ICE is slated to have more agents than the FBI. 2026, are you really that far off?
The budget for ICE and detention facilities and more wall is staggering. 10,000 more ICE agents to arrest guys picking strawberries.
The best cherry crop in years along the Columbia River in Oregon is going to waste. Workers are rightfully terrified. But I've yet to see a single farmer arrested by ICE for the serious crime of hiring people they absolutely, positively knew were undocumented.
And yet, who’s in charge? The moron said weeks ago that they were going to lay off on farm and restaurant workers. I guess he forgot to mention greens keepers. The ICE Barbie seems to have countermanded that order, and the abductions continue unabated. So who’s in charge? She’s spending her time getting portraits painted of herself as a cowgirl. He’s spending his time dreaming up unneeded tariffs and wrecking the world economy. Neither is doing their job.

Yes, that's the first I've heard of it and I just happened to trip on it.
A beautiful story.

Heroism… sees a need and meets it with what is in hand… Doesn’t ask “what’s in it for me”.

Thank you for this. If only our national leadership had half the heart of these compassionate and brave people.
You said it, Karen
I deeply wish their humanity will send a message. La Empatia salva.
Amen, Andre
Vaya con Dios to them all
Well done.
Thanks, Brother
That headline is a low take. That group from Mexico is not undocumented: the name is right in the article.
And there are plenty of Americans involved in the search: my daughter's step son is one of those who went to help.
John -

ICE now has so much money, maybe they can send staff in and help pick cherries or strawberries?

You know, John, I've spent far too much time trying to decide which portrait of Kristi should hang in the South Dakota state capitol
We build walls…they build hope and neighbor relationships 💔
Nice. Count them among the "some, I suppose, are good people..."
We need to hear more stories like this. Compassion knows no boundaries.
Thank you for sharing this, Bob. So much hatred, prejudice and misinformation out there now and this story helps lift one’s spirits.
