There's way more to our City of Davis water bill than meets the eye
Solid waste, consumption, irrigation, public safety and more all add up to One Big Beautiful Bill
A few days ago I was writing about a monthly irritation that I refer to as the City of Davis water bill.
A kind reader pointed out that this friendly communication from our esteemed leaders is technically known as the "Davis City Services Bill," since it also includes charges for a variety of things other than water.
Pretty much everything except DoorDash.
We used to get this bill only every other month, but as these rates began to skyrocket, the City Fathers and Mothers decided there would be less sticker shock if they divided the bill in half and sent it out monthly. Those clever devils.
Pretty soon, no doubt, we'll be getting our bills every two weeks and then probably daily. Or maybe even hourly.
I mean, if your City Services Bill is $200 a month, that works out to just $6.67 a day, which is less than the price of a cup of coffee downtown.
If you opt for hourly billing, you're down to 28 cents an hour and you can pay it out of the spare change jar you keep hidden in the bedroom closet.
The part of the bill I don't like, and I've complained about this before, is that "TOTAL DUE" is in all caps, which sounds very Trumpian to me.
