I detest NIL and the turning of college sports into “professional” sports. The consequences of this are especially devastating for the “not as flashy” sports I happen to be passionate about such as swimming and track and field. These so called “lesser” sports are increasingly severely limited in both scholarships and spots available due to NIL $ going to the major sports, and now too many hardworking and deserving athletes don’t have the chance to compete collegiately. It’s a huge shame! Being a part of a collegiate team is such a wonderful opportunity and it’s just so maddening that it’s now so limited.

I shall now step down from my soapbox. 🙄😁

As a member of the tennis team when I was at UC Davis, I felt like it was a complete honor. Never made a penny. (Didn't deserve to make a penny.) Made lifelong friendships, got great coaching and was able to keep playing the sport for years after. When I graduated I still had a year's eligibility left, so I may try out again and see if I can get some of that NIL money.

Go Ags

I felt the same being a proud member of the UC Davis Swim team so long ago.

And your last sentence about getting some NIL $ made me burst out laughing!

The Red Birds were definitely the overachievers of 2025.

Indeed. Great comeback. Tough, tough loss.

They should have called the game at 28-28 and given both teams the trophy.

Nice article Bob, as it emphasized that Coach Plough is truly a class act and great guy as he focuses on the bonded Aggie team who will be leading us into the 2026 football season. Go Ags!
