My read and re-read of your article, followed by an extensive 12 second Google search, did not uncover one of my burning questions: What does STUNT actually mean?
Normally, an all-capital acronym is followed shortly (or somewhere) by what the capital letters actually are representing. I presume by context it has something to do with what used to be called competitive cheerleading, and apparently that is now an “out” term. Any insight would be appreciated. My brain is already hurting from trying to come up with potential meanings of STUNT.
Also, as the sport grows, I could see STUNT getting rebranded to stunt, lower-case. The NCAA originally referred to beach volleyball as "sand volleyball," presumably because it rarely takes place on an actual beach. That name quickly went back to being "beach volleyball," as that sport was already well-established under that name on the pro/international stages.
As it is, we're approaching an interesting tipping point for softball, which is now often referred to as "fastpitch." I already use both terms interchangeably in my own coverage. After all, softball comes in the two flavors – fast and slow – plus the fact remains that a softball is harder than a hardball.
I've been trying to figure that out for months, and simply gave up. We're adding it at St. Francis High this year, with the sport listed as "STUNT" at the CIF level, too. Agree 100 percent: the all-caps style indeed makes it appear to be an acronym.
One hypothesis was that it stands for "Special Techniques Used in New Tactics," but I haven't found that confirmed. Probably an example of Google AI finding someone taking shot in the dark on a Subreddit, then running with it.

It's a shame you didn't mention that they chose to eliminate the award winning equestrian program to have this program.
It wasn't a straight swap, Teri. There are substantial differences in those two programs.
That said, however, I too was extremely disappointed to see equestrian disappear from our beloved Ag school.
