UC Irvine runs away from UC Davis women in Big West basketball action
Ice-cold shooting dooms Aggies in 73-42 loss to league-leading Anteaters
IRVINE ... You play enough basketball games and sooner or later you’re going to have one of those days when nothing goes right.
Such was the case for the UC Davis women Saturday afternoon as UC Irvine dominated from start to finish to deal the Aggies a stunning 73-42 loss in Big West Conference action before an enthusiastic crowd of 972 at the Bren Events Center.
The loss drops the Aggies to 5-2 in Big West play and 12-6 overall.
Irvine, one of the top Mid-Major powers in the country, remains unbeaten at 7-0 and is 16-2 overall. The Anteaters share the league lead with UC San Diego with 13 games left to play.
Irvine jumped to a 20-12 lead at the quarter and pushed that to 38-25 at the half.
The Anteaters continued to roll after intermission, while the Aggies went ice cold, managing just nine points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth.
For the game, UCD shot just 21.2 percent from the field and 9.1 percent from 3-point land.
The lone bright spot for the Aggies was Megan Norris, who recorded yet another double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, along with two blocks, two steals and an assist.
Jada Wynn hit five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 24 points.
UCD returns to Big West action Thursday at UC San Diego and Saturday at UC Riverside.
In other Big West games Saturday, UC San Diego ran its record to 7-0 with an easy 84-66 win over Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton stopped UC Riverside, 83-71, and Long Beach State edged Cal State Northridge, 62-61.
