It’s a minor miracle that V appears to have been narrowly defeated, particularly after the 100’s of 1,000’s of dollars spent by the yes side (almost $1 million dollars). Such spending backfired by promising all things to all people - not quite a chicken in every pot but almost. City Council needs to do some soul searching and be held accountable for their unanimous support (could it be that developer money is the mother’s milk of Davis politics?). Perhaps now we can step back and have an honest conversation about what “affordable housing” means and how to make it happen - $500-$700k is not it.
The strategy for MAGA is if Republican wins, it's a far election. Want more wins, gerrymander so only Republicans can vote. The DOJ should investigate all 58 counties to find the election cheaters. But first they might want to read the Constitution about elections and who decides how they are conducted. Then they might just let the White House and the Speaker know what it says.

It's just that the most populous counties tend to lean Dem, especially L.A., Alameda, San Francisco, San Diego and Santa Clara (and even San Diego was heavily red a few times).
Indeed, when Trump points to some statewide conspiracy to elect a Democrat, I picture voters in Lassen (75.8 percent Trump in 2024), Modoc (71.8 pct), Tehama (69.7), Shasta (67.0) and Glenn (66.12) saying, "Wait, we did WHAT?"
California does not have automatic recounts, but state statute allows the governor to order a recount for any statewide office or state ballot measure for contests decided by the lesser of 1,000 votes or 0.015% of the number of all votes cast for that contest. For gubernatorial races within the close vote margin, the recount may be ordered by the secretary of state. Recounts may be initiated by voters, election officials, and court orders. Recounts must be requested no later than five days following the 31st day of an election. State law does not specify a completion deadline for recounts. Recounts ordered by the governor (or secretary of state) are conducted by hand counting all ballots; for a voter-requested recount, the initiator may choose the recount counting method.
I hope no one is willing to waste the County's time and money for a recount of Measure V.

Trump carried 32 California counties in 2024. Hilton carried more than that in the recent gubernatorial election.
