Measure V officially rejected by 285 votes
Fewer than 100 ballots remain to be counted in highly contentious race
The Measure V campaign is officially over, with the “No” side prevailing by a mere 285 votes of the 23,075 cast.
The Yolo County Elections Office released 186 newly counted ballots that increased the “No” advantage by 47 votes and ended all doubt of the outcome with fewer than 100 left to be “cured” due to signature discrepancies.
The official tally has “No” with 11,680 votes (50.62 percent) and “Yes” with 11,395 votes (49.38 percent).
Speaking for the Village Farms development team, Sandy Whitcombe noted, “I don’t think we’re quite close enough for a recount.”
It’s the second time that this nearly 500-acre parcel just northeast of town along Pole Line Road has been rejected by Davis voters, in this instance for an 1,800-home development.
Whitcombe added, “We aren’t ready to talk about the future of this parcel.”
Precinct breakdowns indicate the project had strong support in West Davis, but opposition was stronger in neighborhoods closer to the parcel.
Vote by mail was the preferred method, with 20,638 Davisites casting ballots that way.
